#148: Blogger’s Out of Office
2 minutes to read

Hi everyone. This post is basically just to let you all know (and by all, I mean my dedicated readership of approximately three people including my husband) that I’m going to be taking a bit of extra time away from my blog during September.

You know when you’re pootling along quite nicely, and suddenly you look up and life has just gone all apeshit on you? I’m having a bit of that right now. It’s nothing bad, in fact it’s all really positive, but my already-overwhelming to-do list is a bit epic.

My eldest daughter starts school next week, and alongside this there are a few (good) changes to my day job. Alongside THIS I’m training for two half marathons in quick succession, so my time spent in trainers needs to increase a bit too.

All of this combined means that emotionally, mentally and physically, I’m feeling quite pushed. Sometimes, I get a gem of an idea for a blog post that I just HAVE to get down in pixels, but more often than not at the moment, I’m battling writer’s block because I’m teetering on perpetual knackeredness. When I feel like this, I know that rest and rejuvenation is what’s going to get me through the busy periods, not forcing out 800 words just because I don’t want to let anyone down.

So, I’m completely removing that element of pressure. If I want to write, and publish a post, then I will. But if the words ain’t flowing, you might not hear from me for a week or two. Basically, I’m taking away the current expectation that I’ve placed on myself, that little voice that says “you MUST publish two original posts each week, or your readers will up and leave and no brands will ever want to work with you again”. I really hope that this isn’t true. At the moment I’m aiming to publish once a week, but like I said – I kind of don’t need that self-inflicted pressure, so once a week might be a bit flexible!

I’m hoping that once I slot into the new school routine, and I work out how to deposit two children into two different places at 8am and get to my desk for 8.30am, and I’ve generally bossed that work/life balance, then I’ll be back to full writing prowess. I’d love to tell you about how I found the whole “child starting school” thing, and of course I want to tell you about my half marathons too (providing I don’t fuck them up).

Please stick with me 🙂 xxx

Awwww this is why I love you, so relatable and frankly I feel like this ALL the time (yet the only desk I need to be at by x am is my blog one and I am nowhere near running another half marathon cos it’s taking everything I have just to get back to 10k!!) I take blog breaks all the time (ahem). Good luck with it all xxx

Good for you, I’m taking a step back too and dropping from my 4 posts a week (which lets be honest was hardly sustainable anyway!) down to 2, maybe 3. Life gets busy sometimes and right now I need to focus my attention elsewhere. Good luck with the training and hope your daughter has settled well xxx

Thank you! The beauty is when it’s your site, you’re your own boss and it really doesn’t matter if you’re posting less for a while as you can increase again when you’re ready. Enjoy your downscaling before your family upsizes 😍 xx
